Sumas joins Whatcom neighbors to streamline local licensing

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Feb. 10, 2022 – The border city of Sumas today joins its Whatcom County neighbors in the state Department of Revenue’s Business Licensing Service (BLS).

Sumas will be joined by nearby Nooksack in March as the final two cities in the county to streamline service, allowing businesses to manage their state and local licenses in the same portal where they report state taxes.

All northwest Washington communities in Island, Skagit, San Juan, and Whatcom counties that issue business licenses will have connected their commerce through a BLS partnership this spring.

Revenue offers BLS’s licensing administration to more than 190 communities to manage local licensing. Find the list of all local partners on the city license endorsements page.
