OLYMPIA, Wash. – Aug. 12, 2021 – Hash browns, Hollywood, hops, and hydropower. The upcoming local partners of the Department of Revenue’s Business Licensing Service (BLS) have connections to all of these and more.
Six cities in the Columbia Basin soon will connect to Revenue’s popular combined licensing solution that supports local business with a secure online portal. The partnering cities are:
- Moxee, joining Aug. 12, near Yakima. It is home to hops farms and breweries that use the fragrant flower in beers. About 75% of all American hops are grown in the valley near Moxee.
- Roslyn, joining Aug. 26, is famous as the fictional site of Cicely, Alaska, which was setting for the eclectic TV show “Northern Exposure” in the 1990s.
- Royal City, joining Sept. 30, anchors a region filled with crucial Washington crops such as grapes, cherries, melons, peaches, pears, and potatoes, and more.
- Rock Island, joining Oct. 7, is 12 miles downstream from Wenatchee and boasts the first hydroelectric dam to span the Columbia River.
- Kittitas, joining Oct. 14, is seven miles east of Ellensburg. It is home to 2000 people and a historic railroad depot that started operating 1883.
- Warden, joining Oct. 21, is in Grant County, which produces more potatoes than any other county anywhere. Hundreds of locals work to sell processed potatoes to markets around the world.
BLS streamlines application and renewal processes for hundreds of different state and local licenses using the same secure portal that facilitates state tax reporting. The service makes it easier for businesses to apply for and renew business licenses and endorsements, while it saves money and time for local cities and towns.
